Open questions are not findings

This page states what the site cannot currently prove and prioritizes the evidence needed next. A plan, blank template or unverified submission is never presented as a research finding.

Research principles

  • Retain stable IDs, versions, variable definitions, provenance and limitations to support findability, accessibility, interoperability and reuse.
  • Record observation, interpretation, diagnosis, professional opinion and authority determination separately.
  • Do not collect data through hazardous-weather exposure, climbing, dismantling or unsupervised fire or load testing.
  • Do not publish data without permission, with personal identifiers or without verifiable provenance.

Priority research questions

Risk: highID: classification-outcomes

Jurisdictional classification outcomes

Current coverage
Official pathways are summarized for selected countries, but project-level authority decisions are not yet collected.
Evidence gap
Comparable, permissioned records showing how roof state, attachment, size, enclosure and use affected classification.
Next evidence
Redacted authority correspondence or published determinations with location, date, edition and fact pattern.

Planning and codes · Pergola vs gazebo, pavilion and patio cover · New Zealand pergola consent and Building Code pathway

Risk: criticalID: wind-uplift-configurations

Wind and uplift configuration evidence

Current coverage
The site explains load paths and evidence requirements without publishing site-free ratings.
Evidence gap
Traceable links between tested or calculated configurations, permitted roof states, reactions, anchors, foundations and site criteria.
Next evidence
Permissioned test reports or project calculations with confidential details removed but scope and limitations preserved.

Wind load, uplift and lateral stability · Structural load path: roof to soil · Product evidence and procurement checklist

Risk: highID: rain-drainage-field-performance

Rain and drainage field performance

Current coverage
Drainage components, overflow and evidence boundaries are documented conceptually.
Evidence gap
Repeatable observations linking rainfall context, roof state, blockage, outlet condition and leakage or overflow location.
Next evidence
Non-destructive post-rain observations using the public field protocol; no exposure during hazardous weather.

Waterproof, water-resistant and rain-shedding claims · Rain, overflow and site drainage · Pergola troubleshooting and warning signs

Risk: mediumID: shade-thermal-comfort

Shade geometry and thermal-comfort observations

Current coverage
The site explains sun path, radiant exposure, air movement and heat-safety boundaries.
Evidence gap
Comparable time-, orientation- and occupancy-specific shade observations across system states and seasons.
Next evidence
Timestamped plan or photo references with orientation, roof state and broad weather context; no personal imagery.

Heat, shade and outdoor thermal comfort · Solar orientation and shading · Accessible and inclusive pergola design

Risk: highID: accessibility-user-testing

Accessibility task testing

Current coverage
Design principles and automated website checks are public; real disabled-user task evidence is not.
Evidence gap
Permissioned evidence about approach, controls, seating, transfer, wayfinding and emergency-use tasks across disabilities.
Next evidence
Professionally facilitated, consented task testing with privacy controls and findings reported without identifying participants.

Accessible and inclusive pergola design · Pergola size, layout and clearance planning · Severe-weather operation and emergency planning

Risk: criticalID: wildfire-assembly-exposure

Wildfire assembly and adjacent-fuel exposure

Current coverage
Official ember, radiant-heat, flame and surrounding-fuel concepts are documented.
Evidence gap
Assembly-specific evidence for roofs, seals, motors, screens, furniture, vegetation and interfaces with the primary building.
Next evidence
Qualified fire-professional review, official hazard context and permissioned assembly records; not unsupervised fire testing.

Wildfire ember exposure and pergola risk · Fire, clearances and egress around pergolas · Climbing plants and structural care

Risk: mediumID: durability-service-life

Durability and service-life records

Current coverage
Material identity, exposure, maintenance and component-cycle concepts are documented.
Evidence gap
Longitudinal records linking environment, material identity, finish, interfaces, maintenance and observed deterioration.
Next evidence
Dated condition maps and maintenance logs using stable component identifiers and non-destructive observations.

Service-life and maintenance planning · Coastal and corrosive environments · Sustainability and circular pergola design

Risk: highID: failure-maintenance-feedback

Failure and maintenance feedback

Current coverage
Common failure mechanisms and inspection escalation boundaries are described.
Evidence gap
Anonymized sequences from first symptom through investigation, temporary control, repair, verification and revised maintenance.
Next evidence
Permissioned incident timelines that distinguish observation from diagnosis and document professional involvement.

Current operational boundary

The site does not yet provide an automated submission endpoint and publishes no field-observation records. Collaboration may be proposed through the publisher's existing contact channel, but do not send personal data, exact residential addresses, confidential documents or unauthorized photographs.
