# Pergola Wiki field observation protocol

Version 1.6 — 2026-07-24

## Scope
This protocol supports permissioned, non-destructive documentation of visible pergola conditions. It is not a structural inspection, code determination, fire test, accessibility certification or product rating.

## Safety stop
Do not climb, dismantle equipment, enter restricted areas, touch damaged electrical components, operate a visibly damaged system or observe during severe weather, fire, flooding, lightning or unsafe heat. Stop when access, stability, electricity, fire, falling objects or another hazard is uncertain.

## Privacy and permission
Confirm permission from the site owner or authorized controller. Do not record names, contact details, street addresses, faces, license plates, access codes or identifying image metadata. Generalize residential location.

## Method
1. Create a stable non-identifying record ID and record protocol version 1.6.
2. Record date, broad time band, observer role, consent status and generalized location.
3. Classify only visible system attributes and record unknown where evidence is missing.
4. Record observations separately from interpretation. Identify what was not visible or not checked.
5. Reference permissioned photos and documents without embedding confidential or copyrighted material.
6. Record limitations, safety stops and the appropriate follow-up route.

## Evidence boundary
A completed row is an observation record, not proof of compliance, safety, durability, weather resistance or professional review. Diagnosis and project decisions remain with the relevant authority, manufacturer or qualified professional.
